Spore: A masterpiece of our time

Posted Sep 08 '08

I hate to write two glowing reviews in a row, but I'll make an exception here.

Spore. Is. AWESOME.

Put on your nerd glasses and bear with my fanboy-ish glee for a moment here. This game is one of those rare, epic experiences I've had in life, like the Lord of the Rings movies or the first time I tried an iPhone. It's still blowing my mind as I type this. I'm not going to attempt to describe it in words, because I could go on and on. Really, you just have to try it for yourself.

Actually, I'm worried. This game is almost TOO good. Not only is it easy to loose track of time when playing this Will Wright masterpiece, it's also really hard to know when to stop. In the best interest of my life, goals, family, and friends, I'm going to start setting a timer when I play, and stick to it. You know... like a child might need. What I'm saying is, be warned. It's potently addictive.

O.K., I'm done. Regular programming will continue now. :)

HowTo: Fix the Spore Creature Creator 'freezing' problem...

Posted Jun 19 '08

Like many people, I recently bought the Spore Creature Creator, and let me first say, it's AWESOME!

But also like many people around the web, I was having a lot of trouble with the Spore Creator Creator freezing on my Windows Vista 32-bit laptop, powered by a GeForce Go 7800. Every time I would try to look at a menu, or the screen would refresh, or any time I would try to save a creature, the game would freeze. The only way to snap out of it was to press Ctrl+Alt+Delete. This was annoying, to say the least. The solution was to install a 3rd party graphics driver. Here are the steps that worked for me:

Note: This fix requires that you have an nVidia graphics card (as I cannot speak for ATI cards having this issue). Also keep in mind, these are 3rd party graphics drivers, so you are doing this is at YOUR OWN RISK! Ok, without further ado...

It should walk you through the process from there, and after your computer restarts, the Spore Creature Creator will probably work much better!
